The Chromebook Pixel is not dead after all!

Looks like Google is still working on the Chromebook Pixel line, they just aren’t sharing anything about it at this time.  I hope this means that we will see a Chromebook Pixel Tablet at this spring’s upcoming Google IO.  Like I have said before, it is important for Google to lead with the Pixel line to show what their operating systems can do, just like what Microsoft is doing with their Surface line.

Google Assistant is here for all

Last week, Google announced that Google Assistant would be coming to all Android 6 and 7 devices.  It seems as though Google is making good on their promise and is starting to push the update to the first batches of devices starting today.

Since Google home is based off of the Google assistant, adding this to potentially hundreds of millions of phones will increase the user base dramatically, giving smart home product manufacturers more intensive to keep producing google home compatible devices.

No new Chromebook Pixel this year?

In a report by techcrunch.com, Google is not planning on bringing back the Chromebook Pixel Laptop this year.  They sat down with Google’s senior vice president for hardware, Rick Osterloh, and he said “we have no plans for Google-branded laptops.” Maybe it’s just me being optimistic, but I’m hopeful that they have no plans for a Google branded laptop this year because they are going to be releasing a Google branded Pixel Chrome OS tablet.

Update: Never say never! Osterloh sent us this additional comment after we published: “Regarding the future of Google-branded laptops (whether called Pixel or not), I should clarify that we don’t have any plans to discuss at this time.”

“For the first time ever, you’ll be able to communicate and interact directly with the larger-than-life Rabbids embarking on new wacky adventures. This lighthearted game makes full use of the controller to show what Daydream can do, while capturing the humor and antics of the original Rabbids series.”

“Won Standout Indie at the inaugural Google Play Awards in 2016 for their word puzzle game, Alphabear. Beartopia is a fun co-op village game that will bring you together with other players so you can form friendships and build a bustling and prosperous society. It will be Spry Fox’s first foray into VR, and we love indie games like this that push the envelope of what’s possible and bring new ideas to growing platforms. Indies have long been a key pillar of Google Play, and we’re excited to see that continue on Daydream.”

“Try on different VR headsets, and the Virtual Labor System will help you identify a suitable artificial intelligence client match.”

Along Together by Turbo Button is a game about being an imaginary friend. Using the Daydream controller, you’ll help your pal safely navigate treacherous 3D puzzles.”

The LG G6 will have 3 color options

Looks like the LG G6 will be available in 3 color options.  We will learn more at the upcoming MWC week long event starting Monday  Feb 27. Beyond the colors, if these renders are correct they did a great job maximizing the screen to body ratio.  Its nice to see bigger screens that don’t make the phone too big for your hand.

Allo is coming to the desktop

c5y84xuwqaaxbrm

One of my favorite apps of last year is Google Allo and to this day, it is still my messenger of choice with many of my friends.  With that said, it is kind of stuck in limbo somewhere between Hangouts and Messenger.

The answer to this problem is simple. Google should make Allo to Android what  iMessage is to iOS.  Make it Androids default messaging app.  Make it so that it interacts seamlessly between other messaging apps, but like iMessage, when you text someone else who is also using Allo, it automatically activates the enhanced features that Allo users enjoy.

Recently announced on Twitter by Nick Fox, google is planning on bringing Allo to the desktop in the future, but it is in development. Bringing Allo to the desktop is the first step, but I would still like to see it replace messenger as the default phone texting client.
